Opening Statement (Description of the Whiskey):
This is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon produced by one of the most recognizable distillery names in the bourbon industry: Michter’s Distillery. This is the company’s lowest tier bourbon that they attach their name to. It is also a Small Batch whiskey, meaning that they mix several barrels after the aging process and then bottle the resulting final product. Michter’s claims that this particular small batch is mixed together in a holding tank that holds no more than 20 barrels.
Parent Company: Chatham Imports, Inc.
Distillery & Bottling Company: Michter’s
Mash Bill: Unknown
Proof: 91.4
Age: At Least 4 Years
Direct Examination (AKA Tasting Notes):
Nose: Classic Vanilla, Brown Sugar, Pinch of Cinnamon and Baking Spices, Hint of Ethanol
Palate: Graham Cracker Crust gives way to a Sugary Caramel Candy. The more you drink it, the more the Vanilla comes through and resembles Melted Vanilla Ice Cream.
Finish: Sugary Oak, Allspice, and Tannins
Mouth Feel: medium
Cross Examination (AKA The Whiskey's Shortcomings):
Finding flaws with this whiskey is a bit nitpicky. But if there is something it can improve upon, I would say the finish is a little lacking. All I really got was a note of sweet wood that quickly dissipated to bitter tannins. Additionally, there really is not much I find memorable about this bourbon in the sense that it does not have really unique flavors.
Closing Statements (AKA Final Thoughts about the Whiskey):
This is a classic bourbon profile with vanilla and Caramel being the stars. Goes down easy and lingers just long enough to make you want to go back for more. If you want a classic run of the mill bourbon that is good quality, then this is the perfect whiskey. There really is not anything flashy or unique about it, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes the classics are just what you are looking for.
Verdict (AKA Score): 7.5
Verdict Key:
10: I do not possess the vocabulary to describe this masterpiece adequately or accurately. It should not be possible for man to create such art.
9: Incredible. Hoard this stuff. Paying secondary market prices is totally worth it.
8: A real pleasure to sip. Always try to have at least one bottle and a backup on hand.
7: A solid pour. Daily drinker for sure. Try to have a bottle on hand.
6: Would not say no to a pour if offered to me, but I will not go out of my way to find it.
5: Good to mix with a coke.
4: Swing and a miss. A mixer makes it tolerable.
3: Only if I had nothing else to drink in the house.
2: Was this made in a prison toilet?
1: This is the stuff the KGB used to kill prisoners slowly and painfully.
0: An abomination of epic proportions. Should not be called whiskey.
