A Caveat About Whiskey Reviews

All whiskey reviews, including mine, are entirely subjective. Just because you are not getting the notes and flavors I am, does not mean your or my palate is better or worse. Recognizing whiskey notes is all about pattern recognition, which takes time. If your brain does not recognize a flavor, it will not be able to describe it. It literally took me years of trying different whiskeys before I was even remotely capable of formulating what I was tasting into descriptive words. In addition, the notes found in whiskeys can vary greatly even for an individual based on what they are eating and drinking, the time of day, whether they are smoking, and a myriad of other factors.

Finally, if you have a whiskey you really enjoy, far be it from me or anyone else to tell you not to like it. Who cares what some guy on the internet that has too much time on his hands and who got duped into paying thousands of dollars for a license to argue (AKA: a law license) has to say.

Tasting and reviewing is not an exact science. Nonetheless, I have found it helpful to read reviews about whiskeys to determine whether bottles are worth spending money on and to see if my brain recognizes the same or different flavors in a whiskey that other people have or have not found. It is through this lens that I hope my reviews aid other whiskey enthusiasts.
